After a series of fatal accidents resulted in at least 17 injuries and 1 death, the Federal Vehicle Safety Agency has launched a formal investigation into Tesla's autopilot system. As of 2018, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has identified 11 accidents in which Tesla vehicles were discovered. "Autopilot covers approximately 765,000 cars produced between 2014 and 2021. The system is a limited function of Tesla's autonomous driving and still requires one person to work.
